Abby’s and My 3 Girls’ Denim Color Crochet Flower Hairclips ~ August 24, 2013

As much as I was bound and determined to do an individual post for each and every project, the next few will have to be an exception. Why? Because I made a LOT of crochet flower hairclips in a variety of colors. I made sets for my niece Abby and sets for my 3 daughter’s as well. There would be no way to even determine now from the pics which denim color crochet flower hairclips were for my niece and which set I gave to my daughters. Therefore, I am just making one post for this colorway, as I will do for the next few projects as well. Additionally I hope this speeds things up a little with getting all these projects documented once and for all. 0

Denim Color Crochet Flower Hairclips Project Info:

Craft: Crochet
Made For: One set for my niece Abby, One set for my 3 girls, and one set for my Etsy shop 😊
Started: August 23, 2013
Completed: August 24, 2013

Pattern Info:

For these denim color crochet flower hairclips I did not notate which pattern I used. Granted, for many projects at that time I used the small rose flower pattern by Claire Crompton. This pattern can be found in the book 200 Crochet Flowers, Embellishments & Trims . The image below is a link to the book on Amazon.

Additionally, I also used my own personal crochet flower pattern for a number of projects at that time as well. I do offer this pattern for free. From the pics it looks more like the first 2 rows of my pattern verses the small rose flower pattern, but any small flower would work. Without a doubt the flower book is useful to have if you are looking for a wide variety of flower options to add to any project you’re stitching.

Yarn used for these denim color crochet flower hairclips:

Blue: Lion Brand’s Pound of Love in the Denim Colorway

A good substitute I found would be Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice or any worsted weight yarn..

Great yarn websites to check out would be: LoveCrafts, Lion Brand, Knitpicks/We Crochet and Knitcrate.

You can use any worsted weight size 4 yarn to stitch something similar. Other good choices to use would be Caron’s Simply Soft and Red Heart Soft. I would recommend any of these. A good place to check out to see if you could find good sales on them are the Lion Brand Website or the Create For Less website. Knit Picks also has a variety of worsted weight yarns to choose from that I will also share links for below that you could use to stitch this up as well. The list won’t be exhaustive, so make sure to check out their website yourself if you don’t find anything I’ve shared to be what you’re looking for. They definitely have a LOT more options than just what’s posted here.

What hooks and tools are needed to make this crochet project?

For this project I used U.S. Size F (3.75 mm) hook.

Something else that comes in handy if you decide you’d like to stitch these sets up for yourself is a good set of crochet hooks. My favorite brand to use are the Knit Picks brand.

I also have a cute little set from Amazon that I love too. You can buy this one fairly inexpensively and it comes with some tools and notions that will be helpful too. Several buying options to choose from and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. πŸ™‚ I also have the light up set pictured below. I love that it’s rechargeable!

What other supplies will be needed?

Add a non slip grip to help keep the clip in place.

In addition to the supplies above, you will need a few other things to recreate these crochet flower hairclips. First you need the hairclips themselves. Second you may want different kinds of embellishments to create all different finished looks. You may want ribbon. You may also like to add the non-slip option by adding felt and the non slip grip material underneath the top part of the headband. Below you will see some links for what I can find that would be similar to what I used. But likely your best bet would be to run into your local beauty retailer and/or craft store and grab what you need. While it may be easier to purchase online, some of these things are easier to buy in person. Indeed this way you can see a little more clearly what you are getting.

Additional Tools for when your wrists and/or hands ache

If you are like me and you knit and crochet a lot, something that I have found is useful at times is a pair of stress relief gloves. I own a few different kinds, but I do think any of them is better than not using anything at all if your hands and wrists are bothering you. I’ll include a few links for you to check out.

Need a little more help?

In conclusion, that should be about all you need if you want to try this one out. If you feel like you might need a little extra assistance and want online classes to help you, check out the link below for Annie’s and Crafty websites. I take online classes often to improve and advance my skills. You can always learn something new!

I taught myself to knit and crochet through kits that I found at my local craft store, so there is always that option as well. I’ll share links to kits similar to what I used that you can also find on Amazon if you can’t find at your local craft store or can’t get to one soon.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need any help. If you are more interested in custom ordering one already made, you can contact me for that as well. I still sell the finished items. You can contact me here or find me in my Etsy shop: Stay@Home Stitchings

Happy Stitching!
