Abigail’s Sweater, Hat and Bootie Set ~ April 13, 2012

We have reached the time where I had started making notations about the projects I was working on so that I can more easily relay the information on how they were created. Abigail’s sweater, hat and bootie set is one of the first projects for that. However, we have not reached the time where I had gotten any better at taking pictures. Ugh!! Back to the piece of advise I have been offering since we started this trek down memory lane….take good pictures!!

The pink color of this yarn was absolutely beautiful and yet it doesn’t look pink at all in the pictures. That’s a bummer. I am grateful to at least have these pictures and to have the information needed to create this set again. I forgot how much I loved this sweater until pulling up these old photos!!

Abigail’s Sweater, Hat and Bootie Set Yarn Info:

I stitched this up using Lion Brand Pound of Love in the colorways: Pastel Pink and Antique White. (And a tad bit of tan and lilac for the booties)

As notated above, I used Lion Brands Pound of Love yarn to create this set. If that isn’t something you like best, other options would be vanna’s choice from Lion Brand, or Red Heart Soft yarn, Caron Simply Soft or I’m going to attach a few worsted weight options at Knit Picks that you could use. It will not be an exhaustive list from that store, or for worsted weight yarn in general, but I wanted to give you some choices to choose from to help you get started. You can also find a lot of these yarn choices at the website Create For Less and Amazon.

Crochet Hooks and Tools

If you are just starting your stitching journey, chances are you don’t have tools yet. I highly recommend doing your research and reading reviews to figure out what you like best. I will include my recommendations, but definitely read and find what works best for you.
My favorite brand of crochet hooks to use are the Knit Picks brand. They are so beautiful and well made. I love their mosaic wood version the most. They also offer a padded handle set. I have a wooden set (although not the mosaic one…bummer…they didn’t offer that when I bought mine) and I have the padded set and I love both of them.

I also have a cute little set from Amazon that I love too. You can buy this one fairly inexpensively and it comes with some tools and notions that will be helpful too. Several buying options to choose from and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. 🙂 I don’t have the light up set pictured below but I think that looks kind of awesome and I may have to get one and try it out. I love that it’s rechargeable! Again, be sure to do your research and read the reviews. If you buy a good set of hooks it’s likely you will never need to buy another set again, or at least not for a very long time. Doing your homework to make sure you are making a sound purchase is always a good idea.

Need More Help?

Maybe you’re completely new to crocheting and don’t know how to do it at all. I taught myself a lot of how to knit and crochet through a kit. I posted a link to one that is similar to what I bought years ago below from amazon. There are also a LOT of online resources that can help you, such as Annie’s online classes I’m posting below. You can also find your local yarn store and check out what they have available. There are almost always options there to learn.

Final Notes and Thoughts

Just looking at these pictures has me itching to stitch up an adorable baby set again! That sweater!! Seriously?!! The cuteness overload!! And if I remember correctly, because it has been quite a while since I stitched it, but I seem to remember that sweater being fairly easy to stitch up. It looks a little more complicated than it actually is. So don’t shy away from giving it a try. I found this pattern in the March/April 2012 Crochet Today! Magazine. At least it was very current at the time! LOL I have dozens and dozens more projects I want to attempt from all the magazine subscriptions I’ve had over the years. So many pages dog eared to try. I highly recommend subscribing to a magazine of some kind. It’s a little inexpensive treat that keeps giving fun surprises each month.

That wraps up this project and all that is needed to stitch one yourself. If you have any questions or pics of projects you’ve completed yourself, please ask and/or share. 🙂
Happy Stitching!
