Baby Ewan’s Knit Blanket was made as a gift for a friend’s baby shower. One of my absolute favorite gifts to give is something that I have stitched. There is just something special about taking the time required to make a gift that seems to add that little something extra. I know not all people agree with this. There are some that don’t appreciate a handmade item, thinking maybe that was the easier or cheaper way to do something. I guess that’s just based on the value you give to time. I can run to a store and pick something out in a few minutes. But the hours and weeks that is sometimes poured into a handmade gift is something that I consider very valuable.
No matter how something I have made is received, I always feel good about giving it because I know how much time and heart has gone into it. Thankfully this gift was received with much love and appreciation. That isn’t what made me go off on this little tangent. Looking at this pic just makes me think about how much I love doing what I do. 🙂

Baby Ewan’s Knit Blanket Pattern Info:
The pattern I used to stitch this blanket is: Seed and Tweed Baby Set by Kathy North
Baby Ewan’s Knit Blanket Yarn Info:
I stitched this up using Lion Brand Pound of Love in Beige, Lion Brand Wool-Ease in colorway: Avocado, Vanna’s Choice in colorway: Chocolate and Bernat Softee Baby in colorway: soft fern.
If my yarn selection doesn’t work for you for some reason, here are some other worsted weight options. I’m not sure Lion Brand Still carries the worsted weight Wool Ease so these other choices may help if you can’t find it. I love vanna’s choice from Lion Brand (which I consider very comparable to the worsted weight wool ease), or Red Heart Soft yarn, Caron Simply Soft or I’m going to attach a few worsted weight options at Knit Picks that you could use. It will not be an exhaustive list from that store, or for worsted weight yarn in general, but I wanted to give you some choices to choose from to help you get started. You can also find a lot of these yarn choices at the website Create For Less and Amazon.
Knitting Needles and Tools
If you are just starting your stitching journey, chances are you don’t have tools yet. I highly recommend doing your research and reading reviews to figure out what you like best. I will include my recommendations, but definitely read and find what works best for you.
My favorite brand of needles to use are the Knit Picks brand. They are so beautiful and well made. Pictured below are a mosaic wood version. I just love them.
You can also find options at any of your local craft stores or even on Amazon. I’ll be sure to include a few other links as well. Several buying options to choose from and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. 🙂 You will see that most of the options I recommend are interchangeable sets, and only ones that I have heard great reviews on, even if I don’t personally own each brand. Interchangeable needles are going to be the most economical way to get started as you can use them for a wide variety of projects. Whatever you do, I can’t stress enough to make sure to do your research. If you purchase a quality needle from the start, you won’t have to buy replacements later on. They will stand the test of time and use, so do your homework first and shop smart!
Still Need Help?
Maybe you’re completely new to knitting and/or don’t know how to do it at all. I taught myself a lot of how to knit and crochet through a kit. I posted a link to one that is similar to what I bought years ago below from amazon. There are also a LOT of online resources that can help you, such as Annie’s online classes I’m posting below. Those kinds of resources were not available (that I knew of) when I was learning how to stitch. You can also find your local yarn store and check out what classes they have available. There are almost always options there to learn. If you decide you’d rather not learn but would like this blanket, I’d be happy to stitch this up for you, just send me a message to custom order.
Border Pattern Info:
I did not use the border written in the pattern. I created my own with a pattern from the “Around the Corner Crochet Border” book. You will find a link for this book below:
That wraps up this project and all that is needed to stitch one yourself. If you have any questions or pics of projects you’ve completed yourself, please ask and/or share. 🙂
Happy Stitching!
