This was not the post I thought I was going to be writing today. As I was scrolling through my pictures to pull up the one for the post I thought I was writing, I came across the picture for this project. With this information in mind, you can be sure I have no details notated about this bonus crochet flower newsboy hat. Undoubtedly this was stitched as a last minute birthday gift for one of my girls’ friends.
Indeed there were many a time that I hurriedly put one of these together in order for them to make it to a party. If that was the case, oftentimes I did not even get pictures of these projects, much less get them added to my project journal. Furthermore, if you have been following for any length of time, that should surely tell you how many of these hats I have made over the years!!

Crochet Flower Newsboy Hat Pattern Info:
This hat was created from my Ninja Turtle Newsboy Hat and/or Beanie Pattern. Instead of doing the ties, as in the Ninja Turtle Pattern, I crocheted a flower instead. You can find my 3 Layer Flower Pattern that I shared on another post. You can also find my pattern for my Flower and Car Fringe Textured Scarf Pattern which I designed to go with this hat to make a beautiful textured set to give as a set.
Originally this pattern was inpired by: Brookside Newsboy Cap by Cyprianne Nolan
This was a great pattern, but I did run into a few issues with the sizing of it not working out for me. I recreated the pattern later for myself in the form of the Ninja Turtle hat and recalculated the stitches for what worked better for me.
However, I never wrote that pattern out for the flower version out of respect for the original designer. Because it was too close to her creation and I didn’t want to infringe on that in any way. I do use my Ninja Turtle pattern for the flower hat and just adjust the striping accordingly, but you can’t go wrong with either one. Without a doubt, she has some really awesome designs and is definitely worth checking out.
For the flower part of this hat I used the pattern I created: Free 3 Layer Flower Pattern. However it would be easy to exchange it for a whole new look. Yarn used for the Crochet Flower Newsboy Hat
White: I am not sure, but possibly Caron Simply soft party in snow sparkle colorway
Blue: Again I am not sure, but it looks very similiar to other hats that I used Lion Brand’s Pound of Love in the denim colorway
A few good substitutes would be: Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice , Red Heart Soft, Bernat Softee Baby and Caron Simply Soft, to name a few.

Crochet Hooks and tools
For this project I used U.S. Size I (5.5 0 mm), J (6.0mm) and K (6.5mm) hooks.
Furthermore, something else that comes in handy if you decide you’d like to stitch these sets up for yourself is a good set of crochet hooks. Undoubtedly my favorite brand to use are the Knit Picks brand.
I also have a cute little set from Amazon that I love too. You can buy this one fairly inexpensively and it comes with some tools and notions that will be helpful too. Several buying options to choose from and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. 🙂 Additionally I have the light up set pictured below. I love that it’s rechargeable!
Make it even more fun and get the whole beginner crochet kit.
A little bling
Of course many little girls love a little added bling when it comes to their accessories. For many of the hats I stitched, I would add these fun little gemstones. While I don’t remember exactly where I purchased them, most likely it was at a craft store or amazon. Nevertheless I am adding an amazon link to point you in the right direction.
Additional Tools for when your wrists and/or hands ache
If you are like me and you knit and crochet a lot, something that I have found is useful at times is a pair of stress relief gloves. I own a few different kinds, but I do think any of them is better than not using anything at all if your hands and wrists are bothering you. In fact I’ll include a few links for you to check out.
