This Crochet 15 Month Blue Ninja Turtle Newsboy Hat was a custom order through my Etsy shop. Without a doubt, this was one of my most popular items at that time. Amazingly, they are still fairly popular today too. Likely because they resemble the characters so much. I’m not sure those guys are ever going to go out of style! They have been around forever!

Crochet Ninja Turtle Hat Pattern Info:
This hat was created from my Ninja Turtle Newsboy Hat and/or Beanie Pattern. There are not only two options to choose from for the ties in the back of the hat, but also two variations to finishing the hat itself. You can select to stitch either a short tie or a long tie depending on which look you like better. Additionally, you can choose to make this as a newsboy hat or beanie.
Yarn used for the Crochet Ninja Turtle Hat
Caron United in Dark Green. Unfortunately I was unable to find a link for this yarn. My guess is it has been discontinued. A good replacement would be the Vanna’s choice in either the Kelly Green, Dusty Green or my favorite choice of Olive.
Blue: Lion Brand Fun Yarn in the Blue colorway. I have searched all over the internet and can’t find the fun yarn anymore either. It has been discontinued as far as I can tell. That is the down side of backtracking and posting after stitching these so many years ago. It is to be expected taht this is likely to happen. I did find something that looks like a nice substitute in Vanna’s Choice, also a Lion Brand yarn, in the colonial blue colorway. It likely won’t be an exact match, but if you want the project to come out as close to looking like it is pictured here, then this might work.
A few good substitutes would be: Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice , Red Heart Soft, Bernat Softee Baby and Caron Simply Soft, to name a few.
Great yarn websites to check out would be: LoveCrafts, Lion Brand, Knitpicks/We Crochet , Mary Maxim and Knitcrate.
Crochet Hooks and tools
For this project I used U.S. Size I (5.5 0 mm), J (6.0mm) and K (6.5mm) hooks.
Furthermore, something else that comes in handy if you decide you’d like to stitch these sets up for yourself is a good set of crochet hooks. Undoubtedly my favorite brand to use are the Knit Picks brand.
I also have a cute little set from Amazon that I love too. You can buy this one fairly inexpensively and it comes with some tools and notions that will be helpful too. Several buying options to choose from and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. 🙂 Additionally I have the light up set pictured below. I love that it’s rechargeable!
Additional Tools for when your wrists and/or hands ache
If you are like me and you knit and crochet a lot, something that I have found is useful at times is a pair of stress relief gloves. I own a few different kinds, but I do think any of them is better than not using anything at all if your hands and wrists are bothering you. In fact I’ll include a few links for you to check out.
