Crochet Baseball Beanie for Jenna ~ February 1, 2014

This crochet baseball beanie is one of the cutest baby boy gifts I have made. In fact I happen to be a pretty big lover of all things sports (for the most part). Therefore any gifts that incorporate sports as well are close to my heart. This project was a custom order. For that reason I did not get any pictures of this being worn by it’s recipient. I bet it was super cute, though!

Crochet Baseball Beanie Pattern Info:

There was no specific pattern notated for this project. If I remember correctly, I made this one up as I went. First I used a basic crochet beanie pattern for the baby size I was making. Then I stitched in the laces by eyeballing where I thought they should go. Honestly this is a very simple pattern so don’t make it harder than it needs to be. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yarn used for the Crochet Baseball Beanie

White: Lion Brand Fun Yarn (Upon researching I do not find this yarn available any more. Any white worsted weight yarn would substitute well.)
Burgundy: Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Burgundy colorway. Undoubtedly it might be a good idea to just use the Red Heart yarn for the white too. To be sure I would use the soft yarn over the super saver as that would be more comfortable to wear.

A few good substitutes would be: Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice , Red Heart Soft, Bernat Softee Baby and Caron Simply Soft, to name a few.

Great yarn websites to check out would be: LoveCrafts, Lion Brand, Knitpicks/We Crochet , Mary Maxim and Knitcrate.

Crochet Hooks and tools

For this project I used U.S. Size H (5.0 mm)hook.

Furthermore, something else that comes in handy if you decide you’d like to stitch these sets up for yourself is a good set of crochet hooks. Undoubtedly my favorite brand to use are the Knit Picks brand.

I also have a cute little set from Amazon that I love too. You can buy this one fairly inexpensively and it comes with some tools and notions that will be helpful too. Several buying options to choose from and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. ๐Ÿ™‚ Additionally I have the light up set pictured below. I love that it’s rechargeable!

Make it even more fun and get the whole beginner crochet kit.

Additional Tools for when your wrists and/or hands ache

If you are like me and you knit and crochet a lot, something that I have found is useful at times is a pair of stress relief gloves. I own a few different kinds, but I do think any of them is better than not using anything at all if your hands and wrists are bothering you. In fact I’ll include a few links for you to check out.
