This Crochet Bear and Butterfly Earflap Hat was another custom order through my Etsy shop. Undoubtedly it’s feast or famine in the handmade world. Either the orders are pouring in and I’m slammed for a few weeks at a time, or it’s like a drought and I can’t get an order to save my life. Of course I prefer being slammed and having the orders pour in. Although having a break every now and again is ok. But if I had to pick one or the other, I would definitely choose being busy.

Yarn used for the Crochet Bear and Butterfly Earflap Hat
Yarn Bee Effortless Super Bulky yarn in the mushroom colorway was what I notated as using for this project. A good substitute that might be easier to find is the Bernat Softee Chunky yarn. The Yarn Bee yarn can only be found at Hobby Lobby. I also like the Cozy Wool brand, but that seems to mostly be limited to Michael’s stores. Bernat is going to be your best bet to find in most yarn retailers.
Great yarn websites to check out would be: LoveCrafts, Lion Brand, Knitpicks/We Crochet , Mary Maxim and Knitcrate.
Crochet Hooks and tools
For this project I used U.S. Size I (5.5 0 mm) and K (6.5mm) hooks.
Furthermore, something else that comes in handy if you decide you’d like to stitch these sets up for yourself is a good set of crochet hooks. Undoubtedly my favorite brand to use are the Knit Picks brand.
I also have a cute little set from Amazon that I love too. You can buy this one fairly inexpensively and it comes with some tools and notions that will be helpful too. Several buying options to choose from and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. 🙂 Additionally I have the light up set pictured below. I love that it’s rechargeable!
Make it even more fun and get the whole beginner crochet kit.
A little bling
Of course many little girls love a little added bling when it comes to their accessories. For many of the hats I stitched, I would add these fun little gemstones. While I don’t remember exactly where I purchased them, most likely it was at a craft store or amazon. Nevertheless I am adding a few amazon links to point you in the right direction. Another option I used frequently were fun buttons. Be creative!!
Additional Tools for when your wrists and/or hands ache
If you are like me and you knit and crochet a lot, something that I have found is useful at times is a pair of stress relief gloves. I own a few different kinds, but I do think any of them is better than not using anything at all if your hands and wrists are bothering you. In fact I’ll include a few links for you to check out.
