Crochet Flower Hair Clips Galore ~ December 15, 2013

In case anyone missed it, I haven’t posted on this blog for about 2 weeks or so. Life has been a little busy and I haven’t been home to write about it. First, I got to take a trip to Hawaii with my hubby because he was sent for work. That was a last minute whirlwind to make happen, but we did and it was amazing. Then we came home to a week of the kids being on spring break and all the busy that brings. Now it’s time to snap back into my stitching journal. To kick it off is this post about crochet flower hair clips galore!

Crochet Flower Hair clips Project Info:

Pattern Info:

Looking back at my log, I had not notated which specific pattern was used to stitch each of these crochet flower hair clips. However, the Rose Bud flower pattern by Claire Crompton was one that I used for a few other clips. This pattern can be found in the book 200 Crochet Flowers, Embellishments & Trims . The image below is a link to the book on Amazon.

Additionally, I also used my own personal crochet flower pattern for a number of projects at that time as well. For smaller projects I only used the first 2-3 rounds of the pattern for the clip. For larger clips I woud do more. I do offer this pattern for free. Without a doubt , however, the flower book is useful to have if you are looking for a wide variety of flower options to add to any project you’re stitching.

Yarn used for the crochet flower hair clips:

The number of different yarns used in this post are almost too many to document. If there is one particular flower you are wondering about, please contact me and I will look it up. Otherwise I am just going to go with a very generalized list based on many of the previous posts I have made.

You can’t go wrong with any worsted weight yarns. Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice , wool-ease, pound of love, caron simply soft solid or party (which is my favorite because it sparkles). In addition to these you have red heart, bernat, impeccable, and the list honestly just goes on and on.

Great yarn websites to check out would be: LoveCrafts, Lion Brand, Knitpicks/We Crochet and Knitcrate.

What hooks and tools are needed to make this crochet project?

For this project I used U.S. Size F (3.75 mm) hook.

Something else that comes in handy if you decide you’d like to stitch these sets up for yourself is a good set of crochet hooks. My favorite brand to use are the Knit Picks brand.

I also have a cute little set from Amazon that I love too. You can buy this one fairly inexpensively and it comes with some tools and notions that will be helpful too. Several buying options to choose from and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. 🙂 I also have the light up set pictured below. I love that it’s rechargeable!

Make it even more fun and get the whole beginner crochet kit.

What other supplies will be needed?

In addition to the supplies above, you will need a few other things to recreate these crochet flower hairclips. First you need the hairclips themselves. Second you may want different kinds of embellishments to create all different finished looks. You may want ribbon. You may also like to add the non-slip option by adding felt and the non slip grip material underneath the top part of the headband. Below you will see some links for what I can find that would be similar to what I used. But likely your best bet would be to run into your local beauty retailer and/or craft store and grab what you need. While it may be easier to purchase online, some of these things are easier to buy in person. Indeed this way you can see a little more clearly what you are getting.

Additional Tools for when your wrists and/or hands ache

If you are like me and you knit and crochet a lot, something that I have found is useful at times is a pair of stress relief gloves. I own a few different kinds, but I do think any of them is better than not using anything at all if your hands and wrists are bothering you. I’ll include a few links for you to check out.

Need a little more help?

In conclusion, that should be about all you need if you want to try this one out. If you feel like you might need a little extra assistance and want online classes to help you, check out the link below for Annie’s and Crafty websites. I take online classes often to improve and advance my skills. You can always learn something new!

I taught myself to knit and crochet through kits that I found at my local craft store, so there is always that option as well. I’ll share links to kits similar to what I used that you can also find on Amazon if you can’t find at your local craft store or can’t get to one soon.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need any help. If you are more interested in custom ordering one already made, you can contact me for that as well. I still sell the finished items. You can contact me here or find me in my Etsy shop: Stay@Home Stitchings

Happy Stitching!
