Crystal’s Crochet Hooded Cowl ~ April 30, 2014

Crystal’s crochet hooded cowl was made as a gift for my girl’s dance teacher. It was our end of year gift to her because she had mentioned wanting to order something like that from me. Naturally when I knew what she liked and would order for herself, it gave me the perfect gift idea to stitch. Without a doubt I love it when it’s that easy to figure out!! However, the thing that makes me super sad is that this is the only project I made from this pattern and I forgot to take a pic!! The picture shared is by Bernat Studios and not my own.

Yarn used for the Crochet Hooded Cowl

Lion Brand Wool Ease in black

A few good substitutes would be: Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice , Red Heart Soft, Bernat Softee Baby and Caron Simply Soft, to name a few.

Great yarn websites to check out would be: LoveCrafts, Lion Brand, Knitpicks/We Crochet , Mary Maxim and Knitcrate.

Crochet Hooks and tools

For this project I used U.S. Size L(8.0 mm)hook.

Furthermore, something else that comes in handy if you decide you’d like to stitch these sets up for yourself is a good set of crochet hooks. Undoubtedly my favorite brand to use are the Knit Picks brand.

I also have a cute little set from Amazon that I love too. You can buy this one fairly inexpensively and it comes with some tools and notions that will be helpful too. Several buying options to choose from and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. 🙂 Additionally I have the light up set pictured below. I love that it’s rechargeable!

Make it even more fun and get the whole beginner crochet kit.

A little bling

Of course many little girls love a little added bling when it comes to their accessories. For many of the hats I stitched, I would add these fun little gemstones. While I don’t remember exactly where I purchased them, most likely it was at a craft store or amazon. Nevertheless I am adding a few amazon links to point you in the right direction. Another option I used frequently were fun buttons. Be creative!!

Additional Tools for when your wrists and/or hands ache

If you are like me and you knit and crochet a lot, something that I have found is useful at times is a pair of stress relief gloves. I own a few different kinds, but I do think any of them is better than not using anything at all if your hands and wrists are bothering you. In fact I’ll include a few links for you to check out.
