As I warned with the last post, this post about Jacob’s Knit Beanie is going to be VERY similar to the last one. I made my nephews matching knit beanies for Christmas gifts per my sister’s request. This time the feature hat is for the handsome little guy on the right in the striped sweater.

I know handmade items are not always received as a favorite gift, especially for kids, but I am always so much more excited to gift something I have stitched verses something I have bought. I get to think about my loved ones with every stitch in the project and so much time and love goes into making a gift verses just clicking and ordering. It always means so much more to me to make something for someone verses buying them something, even if they don’t see it that way.

Jacob’s Knit Beanie Pattern Info:

The pattern I used for this project was the Simplest Cap of All by Judy Gibson.

Yarn Info:

I used Lion Brands Pound of Love in Pastel Blue for the main part of the hat and Caron Simply Soft Eco yarn to stitch the brim. I’m not certain you can find this exact type of Caron yarn anymore. However, the regular Caron simply soft yarn should do just fine. It’s what I use quite often for projects now. Other good yarn choices I would recommend to use to make this would be Vanna’s Choice and Red Heart Soft. Places to yarn shop for these brands would be Amazon , Lion Brand and Create For Less websites.

Knitting Needles and Tools

Of course you will need a good set of knitting needles if you are going to stitch this hat up for yourself. My favorite brand to use, and the only kind I have ever really purchased, are the Knit Picks brand. I am a self taught knitter and I really didn’t have anyone to ask about what to purchase. When I first started I researched knitting needles the best I could and finally opted to go with this brand. I have not regretted it once. They are very high quality and the customer service has always been excellent whenever I’ve needed to contact them.

You can also find options at any of your local craft stores or even on Amazon. I will recommend several buying options and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. You will see that most of the options I recommend are interchangeable sets, and only ones that I have heard great reviews on, even if I don’t personally own each brand. Interchangeable needles are going to be the most economical way to get started as you can use them for a wide variety of projects. Whatever you do, make sure to do your OWN research. Find out what you think the best fit for YOU will be. If you purchase a quality needle from the start, you won’t have to buy replacements later on. They will stand the test of time and use, so do your homework first and shop smart!
