Karen’s Knit Navy Blue Baby Boy Hat ~ July 23, 2013

July 23, 2013

This Knit Navy Blue Baby Boy Hat was a custom order request for a baby gift set. The blanket is a red, white and blue pattern that I absolutely loved. Any time I can stitch something that also reflects some American pride, it brings a little added joy to the project for me. You will find all the details you need to create this hat for yourself below. In my opinion, this hat was the perfect accessory to go with the blanket Karen chose.

Knit Navy Blue Baby Boy Hat Pattern Info:

Welcome to the World Newborn Hat by Nona

Needle size: US 7 – 4.5 mm

In addition to trying this pattern out, I also have two dischloth patterns that I designed. They are available for free on this website.
And so you can find the Simple Seed Stitch Dishcloth Pattern and the Moss Stitch Dishcloth pattern through these links. Moreover, if you scroll to the end of either of those links you will see an option to download the PDF file.

What yarn did I used for this Knit Navy Blue Baby Boy Hat?

Unfortunately, I did not notate what specific yarn I used to stitch this project. However, I am pretty sure I used a worsted weight yarn, even though the pattern called for DK weight. It most certainly could be made using any worsted weight or DK weight yarn. You must be certain you adjust your needle sizes accordingly. Using a different size yarn than the pattern calls for will effect the result of your finished size. You should substitute to your own preferences.

Other good worsted weight yarn choices I would recommend to use to make this would be Lion Brands Wool Ease, Vanna’s Choice, Pound of Love, Caron simply soft and Red Heart Soft. Places to yarn shop for these brands would be Amazon , Lion Brand and Create For Less websites. Caron Simply soft will be a worsted weight yarn that will give you a finished result closest to a DK weight yarn. It tends to run on the thinner side of worsted weight yarn. In my opinion it is borderline DK weight.

What are the best needles and tools to use?

My favorite needles are at Knit Picks. Previous posts of mine go into greater detail as to why I have chosen them over other brands, please scroll through and check my story out. Even better, comment on this post or send me an email and I would be happy to discuss with you.

In order to be fair and give more than just one option, I’m also including a few links to Amazon for some interchangeable sets that come with excellent reviews. I believe interchangeable is one of the most economical ways to get started in knitting. These sets are versatile and can be used for just about any knitting project. In fact, you can even use them to knit in the round if you learn the magic loop!!

Additional Tools for when your wrists and/or hands ache

If you are like me and you knit and crochet a lot, something that I have found is useful at times is a pair of stress relief gloves. I own a few different kinds, but I do think any of them is better than not using anything at all if your hands and wrists are bothering you. I’ll include a few links for you to check out.

Need a little more help?

In short, that should be about all you need if you want to try this one out. However, maybe you still feel like you might need a little extra assistance. That being the case you might want online classes to help you. If so, check out the links below for Craftsy or Annie’s. As a matter of fact, I take online classes often to improve and advance my skills. You can always learn something new! I actually taught myself to knit and crochet through “Teach myself” kits. In addition I’ll share a link for something very similar to what I purchased for myself below as well.
