Knit/Crochet Combo Boot Cuffs ~ September 14, 2013

Last week I thought I was getting back into the routine a little better where I could blog more. However, I was mistaken. My sister and her family came for the weekend to play in all the snow we had gotten. It was a blast!! So, it was totally worth getting a little further behind to have that time together. Now I can tackle the next project post on my list which is the Knit/Crochet combo boot cuffs that I designed. While I created the design and stitched them up, I never actually wrote this pattern out and published it. I guess there’s no time like the present. But, be fully warned, the information included in this post has not been tested.

What are the best needles, hooks and tools to use?

In addition to having great yarn, Knit Picks also carries my favorite needles and hooks. In fact, I’m pretty sure they have everything you can think of… from straight needles, to double pointed needles to an awesome interchangeable set you are sure to love.

Still unsure of what you should purchase? Then I definitely recommend doing your own research and read the reviews. Indeed, you are making an investment in your craft. For this reason you want to be sure you’ll be happy with them for a long time to come. So check out the link below to see what the Knit Picks needles are all about. Without a doubt, I highly recommend them being included in your research.

In addition to this, I’m also including a few links to Amazon for some interchangeable sets that come with excellent reviews. To be sure, I believe interchangeable is one of the most economical ways to get started in knitting. These sets are versatile and can be used for just about any knitting project. In fact, you can even use them to knit in the round if you learn the magic loop!!

Pattern Sizes and Cast on Number:

Please remember as I stated above, other than the medium size, these have not been tested. Please send feedback as you try them out. It would be most appreciated.
XX Small= 12-13” (c/o 40  sts)
X Small= 13-14” (c/o 46 sts)
Small= 14-15” (c/o 52 sts)
Medium= 15-16” (c/o 58 sts)
Large= 16-17” (c/o 64 sts)
Extra Large= 17-18” (c/o 70 sts)
2XL=18-19” (c/o 76 sts)
3XL= 20-21” (c/o 82 sts)

Pattern Instructions:

Cast on the number of stitches for the size desired. Join the round by slipping the last c/o stitch over the first c/o stitch for a more secure hold in the round and to avoid a wide gap. PM to indicate first stitch of the round.

Work 10 Rounds of 2 x 2 ribbing: *K2, P2* around.

Bind off in ribbing pattern after the last round until you have one loop left on your needles. This loop will be the first loop to start the crochet portion of the pattern. Pass this last stitch onto a size H crochet hook.

Rnd 1: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in each bound off stitch. (You should have the same number of sc as you had c/o sts). Ch 1 and turn.

Rnd 2: (sc, 2 dc) in first st. *skip 2 sts, (sc, 2dc) in next st*, repeat from *to* around. Sc in last st. Ch 1 and turn.

Rnds 3-6 (for sizes xxs-L) rnds 3-8 (for sizes XL-3XL): repeat rnd 2 (or repeat round 2 until you reach the desired length).

Rnd 7 (for sizes xxs-L) or 9 (for sizes XL-3XL) (or last rnd if you decided to make boot cuff longer): sc around each st for a nice finishing edge and to keep the top edge of the boot cuff from stretching out easily.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Need a little more help?

In short, that should be about all you need if you want to try this one out. However, maybe you still feel like you might need a little extra assistance. If so, check out the links below for Craftsy or Annie’s. As a matter of fact, I take online classes often to improve and advance my skills. Undoubtedly, you can always learn something new! Indeed I actually taught myself to knit and crochet through “Teach myself” kits. In addition I’ll share a link for something very similar to what I purchased for myself below as well.

Wrapping it all up:

They fit!

I would love to know if you tried this pattern. Even more I would love any feedback or comments you have on it as well. Normally I don’t post patterns that I haven’t tested inside and out. However, I wrote this one so many years ago and don’t really have time to work on it right now. It happens to be next in my journaling history, so I’m throwing it out there untested!! Good luck! Ha ha! But honestly, please let me know how your experience with it goes. I really appreciate it!
