When my sister in law texted me and asked me if I could make her girls a rainbow unicorn, I happily accepted the challenge to create something they would love. I couldn’t find a pattern online that was quite what I was looking for, so I decided to design my own. Thus Mindy’s Crochet Rainbow Unicorn pattern was born. Continue scrolling to find all the info you will need to create this magical stuffed toy for those you love too.

What skills do you need to know to stitch the Easy Crochet Hanging Basket?
You really only need to know the basic skills to stitch this project. The only ones that might be a little new to a beginner is the magic circle and the sc2tog (single crochet 2 together decrease). If you have any questions on these things, please let me know and I will try to walk you through it. I do have a magic circle photo tutorial that might help, so be sure to check it out. Additionally you will need to know a little about how to surface crochet, but that is a technique you could easily learn to complete this project. Worst case, you can just stitch the body separate and sew it to the head if you just can’t figure it out.
Skills:
magic circle
slip stitch (sl st)
single crochet (sc)
single crochet 2 together (sc2tog) decrease
surface crochet
What hooks and tools should you use?
This project requires the use of a larger hook than you would normally use.
US Size L/11/8.0mm Hook
I am going to post 2 options below of where you can find this size hook if you do not own one already. I prefer the WeCrochet website, but I do understand for some people the convenience of Amazon so I wanted to post both options.
Yarn Information for Mindy’s Crochet Rainbow Unicorn:
1 Skein Bernat Blanket yarn (size 6) = approx. 220 yards total for the main part of the unicorn.
As I’m sure you would expect with a rainbow, this project also includes small amounts of several other colors in order to give you the rainbow mane and tail and to differentiate the horn, hooves and facial features. I am sharing the list of colors that I used for the project, but be creative and choose what will work best for you.
Here are the colors I used:
*Main Color (MC): 1 skein Bernat Blanket Yarn (size 6) in White or Vintage White or whipped cream
*Contrast Color (CC): Bernat Blanket Yarn (size 6) in Pink, purple or teal for hooves and horn
Mane and Tail: Bernat Blanket Yarn (size 6) in Crimson, Pumpkin Spice or Orange Leaf, Sunsoaked, Smokey Green, Country Blue and Aubergin
Need a little more help?
In the event that your still unsure and want a little more help, you might really like online classes. And so, if this sounds like you, check out the links below for Craftsy or Annie’s. As a matter of fact, I take online classes often to improve and advance my skills. You can always learn something new! I actually taught myself to knit and crochet through “Teach myself” kits. In addition I’ll share a link for something very similar to what I purchased for myself below as well.
That should be all you need to get this project going. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. I’m here to help!
Happy Stitching!
