Oakley’s Knit Camo Personalized Blanket ~ July 21, 2013

July 21, 2013

This Knit camo personalized blanket was part of the camouflage gift set I made for a custom order. The camo flower hat was the project I posted about last time. This project stretched me out of my comfort zone in a few ways, but especially in the sewing on of the fabric backing. Sewing is not my forte, but I do think it gave this blanket the finished look it needed.

Knit Camo Personalized Blanket Pattern Info:

There was no pattern for this blanket. It was simply a stockinette stitch. I should have notated how many stitches across it was, but I just eyeballed it to the size I wanted it to be width wise and then did the same as I knit it lengthwise.

Needle size: I did not notate the needle size I used for this either. It’s a very good chance I just went by the suggested needle size on the yarn package.

Free Patterns:

In addition to trying this pattern out, I also have two dischloth patterns that I designed. They are available for free on this website.
And so you can find the Simple Seed Stitch Dishcloth Pattern and the Moss Stitch Dishcloth pattern through these links. Moreover, if you scroll to the end of either of those links you will see an option to download the PDF file.

What yarn did I used for this Knit Camo Personalized Blanket?

The back size of the blanket before the fabric backing was put on it.
The back side after the fabric backing was added.
Blocking out the blanket.

This Knit blanket could be made using any worsted weight yarn. For this reason I am going to include several links of my recommendations. Keep in mind I am only sharing worsted weight yarns as that is the size I used for this project. However you can substitute to your own preferences.

For this project I used Hobby Lobby I Love this yarn in the colorway: sweet mocha .

Other good yarn choices I would recommend to use to make this would be Lion Brands Wool Ease, Vanna’s Choice, Pound of Love, Caron simply soft and Red Heart Soft. Places to yarn shop for these brands would be Amazon , Lion Brand and Create For Less websites.

What are the best needles and tools to use?

My favorite needles are at Knit Picks. Previous posts of mine go into greater detail as to why I have chosen them over other brands, please scroll through and check my story out. Even better, comment on this post or send me an email and I would be happy to discuss with you.

In order to be fair and give more than just one option, I’m also including a few links to Amazon for some interchangeable sets that come with excellent reviews. I believe interchangeable is one of the most economical ways to get started in knitting. These sets are versatile and can be used for just about any knitting project. In fact, you can even use them to knit in the round if you learn the magic loop!!

As you can see in the pictures above, I also used blocking mats in order to block this blanket. I am including links below for the ones that are pictured above, and also the ones I have upgraded to since then. The ones I have now have a grid on them in order to help line things up a little more easily.

I highly recommend blocking your finished work. Yes, it’s a pain in the butt. It does in fact take more time to go through the whole process. However, hear me out, you have put so many hours into your work already. Why wouldn’t you want to take just a little longer and make sure it has that store bought finished look? In my opinion, it’s totally worth the time invested.

Additional Tools for when your wrists and/or hands ache

If you are like me and you knit and crochet a lot, something that I have found is useful at times is a pair of stress relief gloves. I own a few different kinds, but I do think any of them is better than not using anything at all if your hands and wrists are bothering you. I’ll include a few links for you to check out.

Need a little more help?

In short, that should be about all you need if you want to try this one out. However, maybe you still feel like you might need a little extra assistance. That being the case you might want online classes to help you. If so, check out the links below for Craftsy or Annie’s. As a matter of fact, I take online classes often to improve and advance my skills. You can always learn something new! I actually taught myself to knit and crochet through “Teach myself” kits. In addition I’ll share a link for something very similar to what I purchased for myself below as well.

That should be about all you need to stitch this one up. If you have any questions about the information in this post please just leave me a comment.

Happy Stitching!
