We have finally reached 2012. The Plum Flower Newsboy Hat will kick things off. With the transition of the website from one domain to another and the number of projects I had completed in 2011, it seemed to take forever to get to a new year! I’ve started listing all the upcoming posts from 2012 and I wasn’t any less busy it seems. There are LOTS of new projects to share from my stitching history. This was the year that I taught myself to knit, so you will now start seeing projects from both crafts. My cross stitching history actually began LONG before I even picked up my crochet hook, when I was a teenager. Then I didn’t start back into that craft until this past year or so…we’re talking 2018/19 time frame. You won’t see any projects of that type for quite some time to come yet.
So let’s get started….
Here is another more sophisticated version of the Flower Newsboy Hat that I have been making. The previous one being the all black version, this one being more of a plum color (I think…we are still working with some rough lighting and picture taking way back then… and I don’t remember every project exactly from all that long ago). This was custom ordered for an adult who loved the look of the newsboy hat with the flower, but didn’t need all the sparkles and colors. It really is so fun to see how one pattern can work for so many different ages and genders. If you follow the pattern exactly as it’s written, you make a Ninja Turtle hat that any boy would love. Leave out all the extras and just stitch the Newsboy Hat straight up and it will work for a man. This pattern really does have endless possibilities! I love when one pattern can do so many things!!

Plum Flower Newsboy Hat Pattern Info:
This hat was created from my Ninja Turtle Newsboy Hat and/or Beanie Pattern. Instead of doing the ties, as in the Ninja Turtle Pattern, I crocheted a flower instead. You can find my 3 Layer Flower Pattern that I shared on another post. You can also find my pattern for my Flower and Car Fringe Textured Scarf Pattern which I designed to go with this hat to make a beautiful textured set to give as a set.
Plum Flower Newsboy Hat Yarn Choices
I discussed above that one of my favorite yarns to stitch these in is the Caron Simply Soft Party yarn. That includes all the sparkles that some adults and men aren’t going to love. Other good choices to use would be Vanna’s Choice and Red Heart Soft. I would recommend any of these. A good place to check out to see if you could find good sales on them are the Lion Brand Website or the Create For Less website. Knit Picks also has a variety of worsted weight yarns to choose from that I will also share links for below that you could use to stitch this up as well. The list won’t be exhaustive, so make sure to check out their website yourself if you don’t find anything I’ve shared to be what you’re looking for. They definitely have a LOT more options than just what’s posted here.
Crochet Hooks and Tools
Something else that comes in handy if you decide you’d like to stitch these sets up for yourself is a good set of crochet hooks. My favorite brand to use are the Knit Picks brand. They are so beautiful and it makes my heart happy just to look at them. Pictured below are the knitting needle version, of which they offer a mosaic wood version of the crochet hooks as well. I just love them. They also offer a padded handle set. I have a wooden set (although not the mosaic one…bummer…they didn’t offer that when I bought mine) and I have the padded set and I love both of them.
I also have a cute little set from Amazon that I love too. You can buy this one fairly inexpensively and it comes with some tools and notions that will be helpful too. Several buying options to choose from and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. 🙂 I don’t have the light up set pictured below but I think that looks kind of awesome and I may have to get one and try it out. I love that it’s rechargeable!
