~ Sparkle Purple Doll & Me Matching Flower Hat and Scarf Set ~ November 23, 2011~

The first of many matching flower hat and scarf sets. The set includes a doll hat and scarf to go with the increasingly popular Flower Newsboy Hat and Flower Fringe Scarf. Just looking at these pictures makes me want to make another set in all the sparkle colors! The hat is stitched in a size to fit an 18 in doll head. This pretty much covers the most popular size dolls. Keep reading to find all the info posted to create this set for yourself or contact me to custom order. I’d be happy to stitch a set up for you. 🙂

Flower Hat and Scarf Set Pattern Info:

The patterns used to stitch this set up were my Flower and Car Fringe Textured Scarf Pattern and my Ninja Turtle Newsboy Hat and Beanie Pattern. I of course adjusted the Ninja Turtle Pattern to exclude the ties and to add the flower. The 3 Layer Flower pattern is my original design which I offer for free in another post. Unfortunately the hat and scarf patterns do not come with the doll sizes included. Those were my minor tweaks in order to make the set smaller for a doll. Check out my How to measure a hat tutorial if you would like to adjust the pattern yourself. Please feel free to ask me any questions if you would like some help with that.

Yarn Choices

Some good choices of yarn to use would be Vanna’s Choice, Caron Simply Soft Party, and Red Heart Soft. I would recommend any of these. A good place to check out to see if you could find good sales on them are the Lion Brand Website or the Create For Less website.

CreateForLess.com - Create More, Spend Less

Knit Picks has yarn too if you want to check out their selection. You’ll want to stick to their worsted weight yarns in order to keep the hat the same size as the pattern calls for. Below I’m going to post some links for options they offer. It is certainly not a complete list, so check out their site for all they have to offer if none of these look like what you need.

Crochet Hooks and Tools

Something else that comes in handy if you decide you’d like to stitch these sets up for yourself is a good set of crochet hooks. My favorite brand to use are the Knit Picks brand. They are so beautiful and well made, so they will be great to look at for many years to come. 🙂 Pictured below are the knitting needle version, of which they offer a mosaic wood version of the crochet hooks as well. I just love them. They also offer a padded handle set. I have a wooden set (although not the mosaic one…bummer…they didn’t offer that when I bought mine) and I have the padded set and I love both of them.

I also have a cute little set from Amazon that I love too. You can buy this one fairly inexpensively and it comes with some tools and notions that will be helpful too. Several buying options to choose from and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. 🙂 Do try and stick to buying a set that doesn’t have the plastic yarn needles if you can. You probably won’t like that as well as the metal/stainless steel ones that you can find in other sets. I don’t have the light up set pictured below but I think that looks kind of awesome and I may have to get one and try it out. I love that it’s rechargeable!
