Tyler’s Crochet Newsboy Hat ~ August 22, 2013

Part of the reason I was thinking my sister requested matching hats for all the kids is the fact that I have projects documented for each of them. LOL That would be a pretty good indication that Tyler’s Crochet Newsboy Hat that matched Benjamin’s Crochet Newsboy hat which will match Jacob’s that I will post next were likely part of this set I am remembering. Ha ha! I am trying my heart out to get all these projects documented and caught up so I can start posting as I go. Then it’s not this guessing game of remembering what I did, it’s actually documenting it as I make it so everything is current and up to date. I am getting there. Slowly but surely, I am getting there.

For the purpose of making sure the hat would fit right, here is my little ham of a model trying this hat out for me. Trying to keep up with her with the camera was quite a challenge. LOL! Oh how I miss those days of little ones running under my feet. Without a doubt, they grow up way too fast!!

Yarn used for Tyler’s Crochet Newsboy Hat:

Blue: Lion Brand’s Pound of Love in the Denim Colorway

White: Red Heart Super saver’s solid

A good substitute I found for the Red Heart super saver Yarn would either be: Lion Brand Pound of love in White or Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in White.

Great yarn websites to check out would be: LoveCrafts, Lion Brand, Knitpicks/We Crochet and Knitcrate.

You can use any worsted weight size 4 yarn to stitch something similar. Other good choices to use would be Caron’s Simply Soft and Red Heart Soft. I would recommend any of these. A good place to check out to see if you could find good sales on them are the Lion Brand Website or the Create For Less website. Knit Picks also has a variety of worsted weight yarns to choose from that I will also share links for below that you could use to stitch this up as well. The list won’t be exhaustive, so make sure to check out their website yourself if you don’t find anything I’ve shared to be what you’re looking for. They definitely have a LOT more options than just what’s posted here.

What hooks and tools are needed to make this crochet project?

Something else that comes in handy if you decide you’d like to stitch these sets up for yourself is a good set of crochet hooks. My favorite brand to use are the Knit Picks brand.

I also have a cute little set from Amazon that I love too. You can buy this one fairly inexpensively and it comes with some tools and notions that will be helpful too. Several buying options to choose from and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. πŸ™‚ I also have the light up set pictured below. I love that it’s rechargeable!

Make it even more fun and get the whole beginner crochet kit.

Additional Tools for when your wrists and/or hands ache

If you are like me and you knit and crochet a lot, something that I have found is useful at times is a pair of stress relief gloves. I own a few different kinds, but I do think any of them is better than not using anything at all if your hands and wrists are bothering you. I’ll include a few links for you to check out.

Need a little more help?

In conclusion, that should be about all you need if you want to try this one out. I taught myself to knit and crochet through kits that I found at my local craft store, so there is always that option as well. I’ll share links to kits similar to what I used that you can also find on Amazon if you can’t find at your local craft store or can’t get to one soon.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need any help. If you are more interested in custom ordering one already made, you can contact me for that as well. I still sell the finished items. You can contact me here or find me in my Etsy shop: Stay@Home Stitchings
