Cayleigh’s Crochet Snowflake Newsboy Hat ~ June 14, 2014

This Crochet Snowflake Newsboy Hat is a variation of the same crochet flower newsboy hat I’m sure you are getting tired of seeing. At least for the most part each hat has had a different color combination to change it up. And to be honest, it is kind of fun to see all the different color pairs and how it changes the look of the hat. For this hat, a friend reached out with the idea and I ran with it. In fact, this one and the next one I make ended up being a custom order for her two girls.

Crochet Snowflake Newsboy Hat Pattern Info:

Like the crochet flower newsboy hat, this hat was created from my Ninja Turtle Newsboy Hat and/or Beanie Pattern. Instead of doing the ties, as in the Ninja Turtle Pattern, or a flower, I stitched a snowflake instead. If you prefer the flower, you can find my 3 Layer Flower Pattern that I shared on another post. You can also find my pattern for my Flower and Car Fringe Textured Scarf Pattern which I designed to go with this hat to make a beautiful textured set to give as a set.

Originally this pattern was inpired by: Brookside Newsboy Cap by Cyprianne Nolan
This was a great pattern, but I did run into a few issues with the sizing of it not working out for me. I recreated the pattern later for myself in the form of the Ninja Turtle hat and recalculated the stitches for what worked better for me.

However, I never wrote that pattern out for the flower version out of respect for the original designer. Because it was too close to her creation and I didn’t want to infringe on that in any way. I do use my Ninja Turtle pattern for the flower hat and just adjust the striping accordingly, but you can’t go wrong with either one. Without a doubt, she has some really awesome designs and is definitely worth checking out.

For my flower hats I use the pattern I created: Free 3 Layer Flower Pattern. However it would be easy to exchange it for a whole new look. For this snowflake hat I simply searched for a free snowflake pattern and used that. Unfortunately, I did notate which snowflake pattern I used.

There is a great book called 200 Crochet Flowers, Embellishments & Trims that has all sorts of other options to choose from. Click the link below to take you to it on Amazon:

Crochet Hooks and tools

Furthermore, something else that comes in handy if you decide you’d like to stitch these sets up for yourself is a good set of crochet hooks. Undoubtedly my favorite brand to use are the Knit Picks brand.

I also have a cute little set from Amazon that I love too. You can buy this one fairly inexpensively and it comes with some tools and notions that will be helpful too. Several buying options to choose from and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. 🙂 Additionally I have the light up set pictured below. I love that it’s rechargeable!

Make it even more fun and get the whole beginner crochet kit.

A little bling

Of course many little girls love a little added bling when it comes to their accessories. For many of the hats I stitched, I would add these fun little gemstones. While I don’t remember exactly where I purchased them, most likely it was at a craft store or amazon. Nevertheless I am adding a few amazon links to point you in the right direction. Another option I used frequently were fun buttons. Be creative!!

Additional Tools for when your wrists and/or hands ache

If you are like me and you knit and crochet a lot, something that I have found is useful at times is a pair of stress relief gloves. I own a few different kinds, but I do think any of them is better than not using anything at all if your hands and wrists are bothering you. In fact I’ll include a few links for you to check out.
