~ Turtle / Minion /Alien Hands Crochet Pattern ~

The inspiration for this pattern came from a custom order that I received in my Etsy Shop . Initially I was contacted around Halloween time by a customer wanting help with their child’s turtle costume. However, they had most of what they needed to put the costume together. They just needed my help with a turtle hat and turtle hands. In fact, they made it a little easier by specifiying how they wanted the finished gloves to look. And so I set to work. Not to mention, it was perfect timing as I had already designed and stitched a bunch of hats from my Ninja Turtle Newsboy and/or Beanie Hat Crochet Pattern

. As a result, I decided to create this custom set based on the stitch pattern already created for that hat pattern. And the finished result was a design that could be used for a variation of costume hands. Who knew so many characters only have 3 fingers?!! LOL So, in this post, you will find everything you will need to stitch you and/or your loved ones up some custom gloves. Even more, this pattern can be for any of the above characters of your choosing.

What hooks and tools should you use?

Something else you’ll need to stitch this is a good crochet hook. My favorite brand to use are the Knit Picks brand. They are so beautiful and well made. Pictured below are the knitting needle version, of which they offer a mosaic wood version of the crochet hooks as well. I just love them. They also offer a padded handle set. I have a wooden set (although not the mosaic one…bummer…they didn’t offer that when I bought mine) and I have the padded set and I love both of them. I also have the little padded set from Amazon and it comes with all the little extras that you’ll need as well, such as stitch markers and yarn needles. I’d love to try to light up set, so I’m posting a link for those as well. If you try them before I do, let me know what you think! πŸ™‚

What yarn do I recommend?

Last, but certainly not least….you need some yarn. Knit Picks has that too if you want to check out their selection. You’ll want to stick to their worsted weight yarns in order to keep the hat the same size as the pattern calls for. Below I’m going to post some links for options they offer. It is certainly not a complete list, so check out their site for all they have to offer if none of these look like what you need.

I stitched the pattern up in Vanna’s Choice. This is one of my favorite yarns to use. It is so super soft and I love the quality. Another yarn I have been using lately that I have really liked is the Red Heart Soft Yarn. I don’t have a direct link for that yarn, but if you click on the Create For Less link below it will take you to a site that has a lot of great yarn deals, and they sell it there.

Need a little more help?

In the event that your still unsure and want a little more help, you might really like online classes. And so, if this sounds like you, check out the links below for Craftsy or Annie’s. As a matter of fact, I take online classes often to improve and advance my skills. You can always learn something new! I actually taught myself to knit and crochet through “Teach myself” kits. In addition I’ll share a link for something very similar to what I purchased for myself below as well.

Last but not least, a few more yarn buying options:

Finally I would like to include just a few more places I like to buy yarn. However, you can be sure, this list is not exhaustive. Indeed, there are a LOT of places I like to buy yarn and tools.

That should be all you need to get this project going. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. I’m here to help!
