Free Patterns to test first:

If you’d like to see one of my patterns first, check out my Simple Seed Stitch Dishcloth Pattern and my Moss Stitch Dishcloth pattern, both of which I offer for free. Not to mention, if you scroll to the end of either of those links you will see an option to download the PDF file. Indeed both of these will be similar to what the Twisted Rib Stitch Dishcloth Pattern will be like.

To be honest, small projects are the best kind to tackle when wanting to learn a new stitch. And what better project to practice on than one that people will be using to clean things up. Because of this perfect stitches and gauge aren’t really essential to a wonderful finished project.

What is the best yarn to use?

There are a number of different kinds of yarn you could use to stitch these up. In fact, I am going to include a few links of some I recommend. Because cotton yarns are my preferred yarn type for dishcloths, these will be mostly what I share. However, you should substitute to your own preferences. You need to love your finished work.

To begin with I highly recommend Knit Picks. In all honesty this is one of my all time favorite places to shop. As a result, my Wishlist is always full of all the things I’d like to purchase or have gifted to me at some point. For this reason I have chosen 4 variations of their Dishie yarn pictured below that I highly recommend. Click on the link in the picture to check each one out.

Alternatively, the 24/7 Cotton yarn by the very reputable Lion Brand company is a great one to try. Indeed you know them for all the other wonderful yarns they sell. In addition to their well known Vanna’s Choice and Wool Ease brands, their cotton yarn is worth checking out as well.

Last, but certainly not least, is the age old Lily’s Sugar N’ Cream. Initially this is what I used to design this pattern. In the event you want to stick with the original, check out the link below for Create For Less. It’s not a direct link to the Sugar N’ Cream yarn. That site is GINORMOUS! But even so, it’s very easy to find. Just type in Sugar N Cream or even just cotton yarn into the search bar. Either way it will bring it right up.

What needles and tools do I recommend?

In addition to having great yarn, Knit Picks also carries my favorite needles. Initially I started knitting in 2012. Not only had I never knit myself, I didn’t know anyone who did either. I had no idea where to start. Therefore I decided to research extensively which were the best needles to buy at that time. Knit Picks topped the chart in so many categories that I decided to give them a try. In all honesty, I haven’t regretted it yet. As a matter of fact, I would buy them again today if given the choice.

If you are unsure of what you should purchase, I definitely recommend doing your own research and read the reviews. Keep in mind that you are making an investment in your craft. For this reason you want to be sure you’ll be happy with them for a long time to come. So check out the link below to see what the Knit Picks needles are all about. I highly recommend them being included in your research.

In addition to this, I’m also including a few links to Amazon for some interchangeable sets that come with excellent reviews. To tell the truth, I believe interchangeable is one of the most economical ways to get started in knitting. These sets are versatile and can be used for just about any knitting project. In fact, you can even use them to knit in the round if you learn the magic loop!!

Still thinking you’d like a little more help?

In the event that your still unsure and want a little more help, you might really like online classes. And so, if this sounds like you, check out the links below for Craftsy or Annie’s. As a matter of fact, I take online classes often to improve and advance my skills. You can always learn something new! I actually taught myself to knit and crochet through “Teach myself” kits. In addition I’ll share a link for something very similar to what I purchased for myself below as well.
