Ronnie’s Knit Air Force Dishcloth ~ December 10, 2012

Finally, the last Knit Air Force Dishcloth to post about, for now. This one I made for my brother. And if you’ve been following up to this point, you will know I made a few of these with various stitching techniques. As a result of trying a few different methods, I did land on my favorite. In short, that would be straight up knitting the dishcloth in stockinette stitch. The border is knit as part of each row as you go. Then the Air Force symbol is added with duplicate stitch as the last step. In the end this seemed to create the nicest finish for the front and the back of the project.

Above all I would like to encourage you in at least one thing from my own stitching experience. Don’t ever be afraid to try something new! Don’t let fear of failure keep you from attempting something that you don’t feel quite ready for. Take the leap!! Try it out! What’s the worse that can happen? So you may have to rip it out. Nevertheless I’m sure you will have learned something new in the process. And still I say this time and time again, dishcloths are the BEST projects to try and learn a new stitch and/or technique on. First because they are small and you haven’t invested a lot of time in them. Secondly you are going to be using them for cleaning purposes so the final result doesn’t need to be perfect!

Pattern Info:

The pattern that I initially used to base this project off of was:
Air Force Dishcloth by RaAnn Clegg. I stitched this project considerably different than that pattern instructs. I was inspired by this pattern to begin with. Therefore I want to give credit to where the idea was originally sourced from.

In addition to trying this pattern out, I also have two dischloth patterns that I designed. Not to mention, they are available for free on this website.
And so you can find the Simple Seed Stitch Dishcloth Pattern and the Moss Stitch Dishcloth pattern through these links. Moreover, if you scroll to the end of either of those links you will see an option to download the PDF file.

What yarn should you use?

There are a number of different kinds of yarn you could use to stitch these up. I am going to include a few links of some I recommend. Because cotton yarns are my preferred yarn type for dishcloths, these will be mostly what I share. However, you should substitute to your own preferences. You need to love your finished work.

Reebok X Peppa Pig: Created exclusively for Little

One of my all time favorite places to shop is Knit Picks. As a result, my Wishlist is always full of all the things I’d like to purchase or have gifted to me at some point. For this reason I have chosen 4 variations of their Dishie yarn pictured below that I highly recommend. Click on the link in the picture to check each one out.

Additionally the 24/7 Cotton yarn by the very reputable Lion Brand company is a great one to try. Indeed you know them for all the other wonderful yarns they sell. They are worth checking out for their cotton yarn as well.

Last, but certainly not least, is the age old Lily’s Sugar N’ Cream. Initially this is what I used to design this pattern. In the event you want to stick with the orginal, check out the link below for Create For Less. It’s not a direct link to the Sugar N’ Cream yarn. That site is GINORMOUS! But even so, it’s very easy to find. Just type in Sugar N Cream or even just cotton yarn into the search bar. Either way it will bring it right up.

What are the best needles and tools to use?

In addition to having great yarn, Knit Picks also carries my favorite needles. Initially I started knitting in 2012. Not only had I never knit myself, I didn’t know anyone who did either. I had no idea where to start. Therefore I decided to research extensively which were the best needles to buy at that time. Knit Picks topped the chart in so many categories that I decided to give them a try. In all honesty, I haven’t regretted it yet. As a matter of fact, I would buy them again today if given the choice.

If you are unsure of what you should purchase, I definitely recommend doing your own research and read the reviews. Keep in mind that you are making an investment in your craft. For this reason you want to be sure you’ll be happy with them for a long time to come. So check out the link below to see what the Knit Picks needles are all about. I highly recommend them being included in your research.

In addition to this, I’m also including a few links to Amazon for some interchangeable sets that come with excellent reviews. To tell the truth, I believe interchangeable is one of the most economical ways to get started in knitting. These sets are versatile and can be used for just about any knitting project. In fact, you can even use them to knit in the round if you learn the magic loop!!

Need a little more help?

In short, that should be about all you need if you want to try this one out. However, maybe you still feel like you might need a little extra assistance. That being the case you might want online classes to help you. If so, check out the links below for Craftsy or Annie’s. As a matter of fact, I take online classes often to improve and advance my skills. You can always learn something new! I actually taught myself to knit and crochet through “Teach myself” kits. In addition I’ll share a link for something very similar to what I purchased for myself below as well.
